Educated at the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis) and the University of Maryland (College Park), Dr. Laverson graduated summa cum laude in 1979. He then attended medical school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, MD, graduating in 1983. 

Dr. Laverson's ten years of internship and residency training included general surgery at UCLA, Los Angeles County Hospitals, and at other government, private, and academic hospitals in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Atlanta. His fellowship in plastic surgery was in New York at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, North Shore University Hospital, State University of New York, Winthrop, and other centers.

Dr. Laverson was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1992 and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1995. He maintains certification annually with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  The American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF) sets the standards by which we maintain our surgery center accreditation (Facility #6198).

Dr. Laverson worked as a junior scientist at the National Institute of Health and published a variety of peer-reviewed research and editorials in such journals as The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Trauma, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.  He has been invited to present his work at meetings of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Laverson is a fully trained general surgeon and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. He subsequently specialized in and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery ("Double Board Certified"). Dr. Laverson maintains hospital privileges at Palomar Medical Center, Escondido, CA, an American College of Surgeons designated Level 2 Trauma Center, and at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas, CA. He is an active member of the following professional organizations:

Dr. Laverson is the founder and chairman of the board of Femininity Foundation, a federally designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, providing aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery services to promote rehabilitation and recovery for unfunded adult victims of violence and physical abuse.
